I have been visiting this place off and on for the better part of 11 years. The only thing that keeps me from consistently visiting is that I now live out of town. Let me start off by saying that this has to be some of the very best original ice cream that New Mexico has to offer. Everything that I have tried here to date has been mind-blowingly (is that a word?) good. Today I brought out the family for a special departure treat before we left back to ABQ. We had a scoop each of lavender, white chocolate pistachio, and peach. The whole family could not keep their smackers off each other's ice creams. I will admit that the lavender flavor can start to taste a bit Carmex-like after you've eaten it for a bit, but it is so good that you will probably finish the whole thing. Their use of real ingredients is what really attracts me to this place. For example, in the lavender, you actually see pieces of the plant that were mixed in. My only turn off with this place is the inconsistency of their staff. In particular, there is an older gentleman that works here that will short the heck out of your portion amount. So do look out for that. As long as he's not there, the other servers often load you up a good sized scoop. The prices are a tad bit high but considering that it is all homemade it is more than worth it. They also offer food here but I have never got around to trying it. If you are in the taos/arroyo seco area, definitely give this place a try.

Huevos Guerreros Breakfast tacos with green chile-scallion scramble, cheddar, bacon and hash browns tasty with thick cut bacon. Home made Granola too. Love that Green Chile slow low burn!

Super cute place in Arroyo Seco! This place must do a great business feeding delicious treats to all the skiers on their way to and from the mountain! Their menu looked like they had a variety of delicious things to get, but we got the ice cream, which is why the review is only 4 stars instead of 5. Instead of the ice cream being smooth and creamy, it was on the icier / slushier side. So while we totally enjoyed stopping in here after skiing, the actual ice cream we got was only decent!

Solid ice cream and very good sandwiches (who know pastrami in rural NM could be this good)? Service can be painfully slow - good thing you're on vacation, right?

We learned about Taos Cow ice cream when we traveled through Santa Fe because Shake Foundation proudly uses their ice cream in their delicious shakes. So when we got to Taos we figured it would be everywhere in town. Instead, we had to make the 20 minute drive to this location. Still, was so hopeful that it would be worth the drive. So sadly disappointed. First, the girls behind the counter were either spacey or unfriendly, but more importantly, There was practically no "cream" in any of the 3 flavors we had: just icy frozen dessert that tasted like their freezers had broken down for a few days and this was the refrozen batch. Yuck.

Almond milk in your latte and the best lavender ice cream I've ever tasted. The food is delicious and of course you can add green chili to everything!

How Now, Taos Cow? Located in the neat little town of Arroyo Seco, this great little ice cream shop sells some great flavors. We especially liked the Mexican chocolate and the raspberry with chocolate chunks. There is nice seating outside next to the stream that runs behind the store.

The ice cream at this place is real! 100% real cream and ingredients. The best! Sandwiches and food as well are good. Fresh ingredients always. Why 3 stars? They recently stopped allowing pets to eat outside with their owner. Not sure what the issue was or is, but we always travel with our dog. We can eat at most the restaurants on the Taos Plaza. The Bent Street Cafe carries a dessert made with Taos Cow ice cream, so I guess that will have to do.

i consider myself to be somewhat of an ice cream conniseur, and i have to say that this might be an example of the best ice cream i've had in a long time. with unique flavors, you'll spend a long time just choosing and tasting the different options. absolutely loved it. 1000000/10. best ice cream ever. giant chunks of chocolate and fresh mint in a waffle cone... what can be better.

4.5 stars This place was recommended to us by locals during our visit to NM, so we made it a point to come here and glad we did! Hot Turkey and Brie Sandwich with mixed greens, honey mustard, and balsamic vinaigrette on a ciabatta roll, served with a pickle and chips - Excellent ratio of meat to greens and the taste, especially of the ciabatta roll itself, was so good. Lots of melted gooey Brie, offset by the sweet sharpness of the honey mustard, and a nice helping of thin-sliced turkey. Lavender Ice Cream, which is their rGBH-free Sweet Cream ice cream base flavored with organic lavender from Los Poblanos in Los Ranchos de ABQ, in a Waffle Cone - This smelled amazing when I got it; I literally couldn't stop sniffing it for a few moments! There were bits of lavender mixed throughout, making it so incredibly fragrant. The taste and texture was superb, with the lavender flavor gradually emerging the longer I held the ice cream in my mouth and the more I ate. Cone was not too sweet, so it complemented the ice cream well. If I had to nitpick, it would be that the ice cream base could be just a tad less sweet to let more lavender shine through. Still worth it though. M/F single occupancy restrooms in the back and outdoor seating available.

When staying in Taos we were told it would be well worth our while to take a short trip out to Arroyo Seco to check out local art and of course, amazing ice cream. Everyone is great from when you walk in to when you leave. The mood if festive, the people watching great, and the line moves fast. The flavors are unique and the Pinon Caramel had chunks of caramel the size of my thumb! We also tried a Cherry Ice cream that was just the best. Will definitely be back next time I am in the area!

Hippee heaven. This great spot had a great lunch (breakfast looks fab), and the ice cream is as you've read, heavenly. Pinon (~how do I get that over the n?!) Caramel was amazing. Go walk this cute stretch of shops in Arroyo Seco with your cone and pinch yourself.

DAMN good lavender ice cream. If I didn't have a warrant for my arrest in New Mexico, I would come back to Taos to partake immediately.

Have you ever wondered what pine nuts taste like in ice cream? Is it a crime to want your lavender blossoms in a cup or a cone? For some of the most unique flavors in ice cream you may ever see (or eat rather!), the Taos Cow has it. Another fabulous place to visit, especially after hiking in the Taos Ski Valley. You can't beat a sugar rush after oxygen deprivation at 11,000 feet!

Stumbled upon this place around lunchtime so decided to do ice cream for lunch. Fun selection including piñon caramel, coconut, Mexican chocolate, pistachio white chocolate and lavender. Very tasty! They also appeared to have a great breakfast selection. Casual seating area with some fun shops in walking distance.

Great ice cream, good sandwiches, excellent coffee drinks, in a cool location in Arryo Seco off the Taos Sky Valley road. I usually stop in for a coffee drink (latte, mocha, hot chocolate) on my way to Taos Ski Valley. Lunches are great too. My favorite is the turkey and brie sandwich, especially if I want to get food coma and nap the rest of the day. They do have sloooow internet, and it is ok to work on your laptop there. Overall, worth checking out the next time your are in Seco.

I drive up to Taos every weekend and I finally stopped in here since I always see kids with huge ice cream cones sitting in the window. I tried the Pistachio with white chocolate chips. It was icy, not creamy! Kind of a disappointment. I wish they would make creamy, rich ice creams! I will get a wendy's frosty in town next time I have an inkling for ice cream while in Taos.

Popular local spot for ice cream, coffee, and sandwiches. The servers were friendly and were willing to make changes to my order. The breakfast burrito was hearty - filled with scrambled eggs, ground sausage (Boar's Head unfortunately), and a couple of other things. By now I have learned my lesson about eating greasy meat for breakfast, but the burrito gave me sustenance I needed for the nearly disastrous hike that I went on not long after eating.

Cute building, nice workers, great ice cream! I got a coffee and chocolate flavor (can't remember the exact name) and it was so great. It was definitely memorable. Two of my group got piñon and caramel flavored ice cream which was great. So fragrant! Their espresso was also awesome. It is a great environment.

Famous for their great assortment of custom ice creams which is well deserved. From classic vanilla to cinnamon every flavor I have tried over dozen+ visits, each has been a special treat. I try a different flavor each trip, which is hard to do because past favorites call out to me. The servers are often surly and at best distracted but I look forward to them almost as much as the ice cream. It's like having your own kids serving you only more tattoos & piercings. (That reminds me. I should call my kids tonight).

Stopped in for coffee several times during my trip to Taos and breakfast once. Coffee was very good and the breakfast was incredible. I will be returning the next time I visit Taos.

Not only does Taos Cow have unique and interesting ice cream flavors, but their deli-style counter food service is healthy and flavorful. The Sautéed Portabella Sandwich and The Molly breakfast dish are mega delicious and having a place where you can run in and get hummus or pesto on a bagel is very nice! That I can chow down on a green chili breakfast burrito with a hot cup of coffee all while being serenaded by Depeche Mode and The Cure puts me in heaven.

Of course the ice cream is exceptional, but treat yourself to some of their other food! The breakfast burrito I had yesterday was 5 star! Plus, you will always be greeted with a smile and great service.

Ice Cream (4 stars) + Sundae (2 stars) = Overall ice cream experience (3 stars) WHY would you go all out with local, "natural, no rBGH", gain a reputable spot on Bon Appétit's top 10, and then insult your ice cream with canned, icky whipped cream and thin, hershey's-grade "chocolate" syrup? My advice to you if you go to Taos Cow: keep your ice cream unadulterated. Say no to sundaes.

Great ice cream. Really, fantastic ice cream. My favorite's the blueberry. The frozen blueberries pop in your mouth. Ahhhh. . . Taos Cow used to serve my favorite sandwich in the world; a hot roast beef sandwich on a french roll, toasted lightly with provolone cheese. The last two times I've been in there, they've been out of french rolls and just substituted whatever bread was closest. . . It's a bit pricey for lunch, and if they're going to be making choices for me on bread selection, I'd just as soon give it a pass. But the ice cream is definitely worth a stop and there, you'll get what you see.

Taos cow is a must stop when in Taos! I was riding up the chair left with a local and she said I had to eat here on my way home! I am glad I did! I had the hot Italian! Roast beef, pesto, mozzarella cheese, tomato and lettuce on a cibata bread. I very good sandwich! I didn't try the ice cream but from the look of the other reviews, it must be good!

I once wrote a haibun lyricizing the small-town charms and cordial ambiance of Taos Cow for my creative writing class, but at the time, I was also embarking on a lonesome diet and didn't get to try any of their famous ice cream. In fact, all I had was a toasted bagel... the poem was undeniably incomplete. I came back (on a sunnier day) two years later, anticipating a really good lunch break from a 27-mile walkathon for Taos Feral Feline Friends. 11 miles from our starting point, none of the walkers were worried about extra calories. Lunch began with hearty pastrami sandwiches that packed crunchy veggies, sugary-soft caramelized onions, peppery meat with toasty melting cheese, and a spicy kick of horseradish on toasted bread, complemented in full by the deli pickle served on a side of crinkly paper. I wondered why I'd spent the last visit dieting when I could've had a sandwich instead. But dessert-- the denouement-- came in the form of super heavenly scoops of simple, rPBGH-free homemade ice cream. Though words like Mexican Chocolate, Cinammon, Lavendar, Pistachio and Piñon Caramel enticed me, it was fresh peach that won me. Light and icy, rich and creamy, it had a subtle peach-milk flavor that lingered in my mouth among the chunks of fresh peach. What else? Besides being named a "top 10 U.S ice cream shop" by Bon Appetit magazine, Taos Cow's owner Jamie Leeson is also a fellow Golden Bear from Cal, and an annual lunch donor to the TFFF walk-a-thoners' cause. What a godsend. I have nothing negative to say about Taos Cow- the only setback with my crazy ice cream eating debauchery stemmed from TC's generosity and a lack of foresight on my part. It's likely that everyone but me knew that 3 scoops of ice cream (delicious as they were) wouldn't bode well with really hot weather, rigorous exercise and 10 more miles down a dusty, sun-soaked strip of highway. But who cares? Lactose-intolerant as I was that day, it was so worth it. If you're ever in Taos (which you very well might be; the skiing/hiking/lounging is great) you'll know where to stop for ice cream. Bottom Line: Feels more homespun than Ici's.

I had the pistachio white chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone. It was good and different. I'm taking off a star for the price....one scoop for $5.50 ($1 extra for the waffle cone) !! They have a rotating menu of a bunch of different flavors. There were probably 8-10 flavors to choose from when I was there.

They serve food food here (as opposed to ice cream food), but I haven't tried the food yet because ice cream food always wins. I recommend the pistachio white chocolate. Great place to sit and watch locals + tourists mix in a small space. Don't forget to check out Rottenstone Pottery across the street.

I have mixed feelings about the Taos Cow. We went twice so, there is some good to be said. The first visit was on a Friday morning at about 10:00. After waiting in line and placing our order, the overall feeling was that of being an interloper. Almost as though they were doing us a favor. Then came the food. The coffee was excellent! Hands down, some of the best I've had. I got a breakfast burrito that contained scrambled eggs with green chili's, hash browns, bacon and a cheese that was unidentifiable by taste. It had no flavor and I ate very little. My wife had the oatmeal which looked great. But, it was extremely thick and dry. As I was paying , they were putting out some hot, fresh banana nut muffins. They smelled wonderful and I bought a couple to go. They were AWESOME!! Hence, the reason we went back on the following Sunday. That visit was a totally different experience. A different crew was there and they couldn't have been nicer. Very pleasant. So, one questionable visit and one great visit.

Great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Biked into town. They have a bike rack and a private parking lot. They have nice outdoor seating and a great atmosphere inside. BEST ice cream ever!!! Great food options. I had the Turkey sandwich and loved it. Employees are great to chat with about the town and the area. I'd totally recommend you stop by! $5 credit card limit. wonky wifi connection for me, but my friend connected oaky.

Stopped on our way back from Tim's bistro in the Ski Valley when I got bad info that it was open on Halloween, This place had good lunch and great sandwiches in Arroyo Seco. It appeared to be one of the few places around and had an obviously local crowd. I had a huge turkey club with crisp bacon. Even tough I was ravenous, I could barely finish it. There was an early snowfall, temp in the 30s and the place had only baseboard heat, so I didn't think twice about having the ice cream.

A cute little ice cream shop right on Arroyo Seco's main street (only street)? The ice cream is homemade and features fresh, all natural ingredients. I'm lactose-intolerant, so didn't actually have any ice cream, but my husband tried the peach flavour and really enjoyed it. Prices are a bit on the high side (I want to say about $4/scoop? can't remember) but ice cream should be a treat and not a dietary staple, right? :) Their baked goods are also very good; I especially enjoyed the blueberry muffin (see pic in my yelp profile), as it was chock-full of berries and a decent size (i.e., huge)! Sandwiches are also yummy and large; I had the BLT and the bacon was sliced into thick strips of porkiness. If you are ever in the Taos Ski Valley or Taos proper, check out this local gem.

OMG. happened upon this place after hiking at the Taos ski area. Started with incredible lavender ice cream (mixed mine with coconut). What a treat! Decided to get sandwiches for the drive back to Santa Fe and so glad we did. Generous and creative too. Brie and turkey, and roast beef with roasted red peppers on ciabatta were delicious. Thanks!
